Beachfront lawns, Summerstrand, Port Elizabeth Spread of Gynandriris cetacea. Much of the lawn area along this strip between Retief Plein & the sea had spreads like this. A patch of Cape Weed, Arctotheca calendula in foreground, also widespread at this time.

This was a relict patch of fynbostype veld which once covered the Summerstrand area prior to its development for housing. This patch will disappear in the not-too-distant future taking an interresting veld type with it.
