Abstract
This digitised archival document records the Rhodes University Graduation Ceremony held on Friday, 10 April 2015, at 10:00 at the 1820 Settlers National Monument in Grahamstown. The programme outlines the formal proceedings and identifies the university’s Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, senior leadership and faculty deans. It records the presentation of Mohamed Saleem Badat for the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws (honoris causa), followed by his address to the congregation. The main body lists graduates and qualifications, including Bachelor of Commerce degrees, postgraduate diplomas, Master of Business Administration, Master of Commerce, Master of Economics, Master of Arts and doctoral degrees. The postgraduate research titles document a broad range of topics relating to business leadership, organisational performance, taxation, financial markets, economic development, information systems, education, environmental sustainability and climate change, with several studies addressing South African and wider African contexts. The programme also explains the historical origins and ceremonial practices of university graduation, including the conferral of degrees, academic gowns and hoods. It preserves the university song Vis Virtus Veritas and the multilingual national anthem of South Africa. As a primary institutional record, the programme supports biographical and genealogical research, qualification verification, and the study of Rhodes University’s academic history, postgraduate research and graduation traditions in 2015.
