Abstract
-
This digitised archival document records the Rhodes University Graduation Ceremony held on Thursday, 9 April 2015, at 17:00 at the 1820 Settlers National Monument in Grahamstown. The programme identifies the university’s Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, senior leadership and faculty deans, and outlines the formal proceedings, including the presentation of Ramopolo Hugh Masekela for the honorary degree of Doctor of Music (honoris causa) and his address to the congregation. It lists graduates receiving certificates, diplomas and undergraduate, honours, master’s and doctoral degrees, with distinctions recorded where applicable. The listings cover the Faculties of Education and Humanities, including qualifications in teacher education, mathematics and science education, environmental education, journalism, media management, international studies and music. Postgraduate research topics documented in the programme address educational leadership, teaching and learning, multilingual education, curriculum development, environmental sustainability, biodiversity, fisheries, higher education and musical performance. The document also preserves the university’s ceremonial traditions through the Latin and English versions of Vis Virtus Veritas, the national anthem and Gaudeamus Igitur. As a primary institutional record, it supports biographical and genealogical research, verification of qualifications, and the study of Rhodes University’s academic history, research interests and graduation traditions in 2015.
