Abstract
-
This digitised archival document records the Rhodes University Graduation Ceremony held on Friday, 21 April 2017, at 10:00 at the 1820 Settlers National Monument in Grahamstown. Presented in English, isiXhosa and Afrikaans, the programme identifies the university’s senior leadership and outlines the formal proceedings for awarding bachelor’s, honours, master’s and doctoral degrees, particularly within the Faculty of Science. It includes extensive graduate lists, academic distinctions, honours, colours and half-colours, preserving evidence of student achievement across disciplines such as information systems, computer science, mathematics, chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, environmental science, geography, geology, biodiversity, zoology, entomology, ichthyology and fisheries science. The doctoral listings provide thesis titles, departmental affiliations and supervisors, documenting research into subjects including fisheries and aquaculture, malaria, nanomaterials, radio astronomy, food security, biodiversity, invasive species, forest conservation, water pollution, environmental management and rural computing infrastructure. The programme also records Vice-Chancellor’s awards recognising research, teaching and community engagement, including the WRC Amanzi for Food Research Programme and the Recreational Fisheries Research Group. As a primary institutional record, it supports biographical and genealogical research, qualification verification, and the study of Rhodes University’s scientific research, academic achievements and institutional history in 2017.
