Abstract
-
This digitised archival document records the Rhodes University Graduation Ceremony held on Saturday, 11 April 2015, at 10:00 at the 1820 Settlers National Monument in Grahamstown. The programme identifies the university’s Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, senior leadership and faculty deans, and outlines the formal order of proceedings, including the presentation of Frances Jane Lund for the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, and the Vice-Chancellor’s Book Award to Leonhard Praeg. The main body lists graduates in the Faculty of Humanities, including recipients of Bachelor of Social Science, Bachelor of Arts with Honours, Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. It records distinctions and postgraduate research across disciplines such as psychology, anthropology, sociology, African languages, journalism and media studies, history, philosophy, political and international studies, creative writing, drama, linguistics and environmental management. The master’s and doctoral thesis titles document research on topics including multilingualism and language policy, HIV and health communication, gender and representation, labour and journalism, land reform, environmental conflict, post-apartheid identity, African music and literary traditions. The programme also preserves the university’s ceremonial order, institutional leadership details and anthem lyrics. As a primary institutional record, it supports biographical and genealogical research, qualification verification, and the study of Rhodes University’s academic history and postgraduate research interests in 2015.
