Abstract
This digitised archival document records the Rhodes University awards, scholarships, bursaries and prizes presented to students and staff, documenting academic achievement, research excellence, teaching, community engagement, environmental responsibility and student leadership. The programme lists the Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Senior Research Medal awarded to Paul Robert Maylam and Martin Herrer Villet, the Senior Distinguished Teaching Medal awarded to Anthea Corinne Garman, the Distinguished Research Medal awarded to Samantha Wynne Vice, the Distinguished Teaching Medal awarded to Deborah Seddon, the Distinguished Award for Community Engagement awarded to Alfredo Terzoli, and the Vice-Chancellor’s Book Award awarded to Herman Wasserman. Environmental awards recognise Paul Robert Juby, Calata House and the Environmental Learning Research Centre, while the Dean of Students Leadership Awards acknowledge numerous students. Further sections record recipients of academic honours, academic colours and academic half colours, followed by extensive listings of scholarships, bursaries and subject-specific prizes across the Humanities, Science, Pharmacy, Commerce and Law. These include postgraduate funding from the Andrew Mellon Foundation and Henderson scholarships, Rhodes University honours, master’s and doctoral scholarships, and awards in disciplines such as history, linguistics, physics, chemistry, botany, pharmacy, law, accounting, information systems, mathematics and computer science. The programme also documents distinctions for research projects, academic performance, musical achievement and professional studies, with some prizes explicitly recorded as not awarded. As a primary institutional record, this document supports biographical and genealogical research, verification of academic distinctions and funding awards, tracing scholarly and professional achievement, and documenting Rhodes University’s history of recognising excellence and supporting student development.
