Abstract
-
his digitised archival document records the Rhodes University graduation ceremony held on Saturday, 9 April 2011, at 10:30 at the 1820 Settlers National Monument in Grahamstown. The twenty-two-page programme lists graduates, academic distinctions, honorary degrees, institutional awards and postgraduate research, particularly within the Faculty of Commerce and the Rhodes Business School. It records the conferment of an honorary Doctor of Laws degree on Mr Joseph Nong Thloloe, alongside qualifications in Commerce, Economics, Accountancy, Taxation, Financial Markets, Management, Information Systems and Business Administration. Postgraduate research addresses leadership development, organisational management, employee retention, corporate social responsibility, environmental sustainability, financial integration, monetary policy, stock-market performance and economic growth, including studies focused on South Africa and other African countries. The programme also documents the Vice-Chancellor’s awards for research, teaching and community engagement, environmental awards, academic honours, colours and half colours, and preserves the university’s ceremonial songs. As a primary institutional source, it supports biographical research, verification of qualifications and distinctions, tracing postgraduate research, and documenting Rhodes University’s academic programmes, institutional traditions and scholarly priorities in 2011.
