Abstract
-
This digitised archival document records the Rhodes University graduation ceremony held on Saturday, 10 April 2010, at 10:30 at the 1820 Settlers National Monument in Grahamstown. The programme identifies Chancellor G.J. Gerwel, Vice-Chancellor S. Badat and other senior university officials, and records an address by Dr Gordon Cragg, who was presented for the honorary degree of Doctor of Science (honoris causa). Pierre William Froneman was presented for the Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Senior Research Medal. The Faculty of Science listings document undergraduate, honours, master’s and doctoral qualifications across disciplines including Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Geology, Biotechnology, Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Zoology, Microbiology, Mathematics and Ichthyology and Fisheries Science. Postgraduate research covers marine and estuarine ecology, fisheries management, biodiversity conservation, invasive species, environmental monitoring, geological exploration, biotechnology, pharmaceutical chemistry, mathematical modelling and computer networking. Numerous entries provide thesis titles and research supervisors, preserving evidence of postgraduate scholarship and academic collaboration. The programme also records awards for research, teaching, community engagement and scholarly publication, alongside environmental awards, student leadership recognition, academic honours, colours, scholarships, bursaries and prizes. As a primary institutional source, it supports biographical research, verification of qualifications and distinctions, tracing research careers, and documenting Rhodes University’s scientific research priorities and institutional history in 2010.
