Abstract
This digitised archival document records the Rhodes University graduation ceremony held on Saturday, 18 April 2009, at 10:30 at the 1820 Settlers National Monument in Grahamstown. The fourteen-page programme lists undergraduate, honours, postgraduate and doctoral qualifications across the Humanities and Commerce, alongside academic distinctions, awards, scholarships and bursaries. It records honorary degrees awarded to Sibongile Khumalo (Doctor of Music) and Issa Gulamhussein Shivji (Doctor of Laws). Postgraduate research addresses corporate social responsibility, local economic development in the Eastern Cape, social policy and access to basic water services, psychotherapy ethics, and copyright implications for archived musical recordings held at the International Library of African Music (ILAM). The programme also documents the Vice-Chancellor’s awards recognising research, teaching and scholarship, and preserves the names of graduates and research supervisors. As a primary institutional source, it supports biographical research, qualification verification, tracing postgraduate scholarship, and documenting Rhodes University’s academic and research history in 2009.
