Abstract
-
This digitised archival document records the Rhodes University graduation ceremony held on Friday, 17 April 2009, at 10:30 at the 1820 Settlers National Monument in Grahamstown. The eighteen-page programme lists graduates across the Faculties of Education, Pharmacy and Law, alongside postgraduate qualifications, academic distinctions, awards, scholarships and bursaries. Dr Humphrey Zokufa addressed the congregation, while Heila Betrie Sisitka received the Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Medal. Postgraduate research covers mathematics education, learner-centred pedagogy, environmental education, Indigenous knowledge systems, educational leadership, information and communication technology, pharmaceutical research, antiretroviral drug interactions, international commercial law and equality rights in South Africa. Notable studies examine stratified ontologies for environmental education, sustainability in higher education, and the integration of Indigenous knowledge into environmental learning. The programme also records awards presented to Peter Vale, Russell Harold Kaschula and Daniel Alban Wylie, alongside extensive lists of academic honours and student achievements. As a primary institutional source, it supports biographical research, qualification verification, tracing postgraduate scholarship and documenting Rhodes University’s academic history and research priorities in 2009.
