Abstract
-
This digitised archival document records the Rhodes University graduation ceremony held on Thursday, 27 March 2008, at 18:00 at the 1820 Settlers National Monument in Grahamstown. The nine-page programme documents graduates across the Faculties of Education, Humanities and Commerce, including diplomas, undergraduate degrees, honours, master’s and doctoral qualifications, as well as academic distinctions and institutional awards. Postgraduate research focuses particularly on education, including educational leadership, curriculum development, mathematics teaching, environmental education, Indigenous Knowledge Systems and the integration of information and communication technologies into teaching and learning. Notable studies examine school management in Namibia, environmental learning through school gardens, the use of portfolios to develop reflective teaching practice, and the incorporation of Indigenous knowledge into environmental education. Doctoral research includes studies of girls’ educational aspirations in Kenya, science teachers’ professional development and the role of language in the development of radiographic knowledge. The programme also records Vice-Chancellor’s awards recognising research, teaching, community engagement and scholarly publication, alongside academic honours, colours and other student achievements. As a primary institutional source, this document supports biographical research, verification of qualifications and distinctions, tracing postgraduate research, and documenting Rhodes University’s academic and educational history in 2008.
