Abstract
This digitised archival document records the Rhodes University graduation ceremony held on Friday, 13 April 2007, at 14:30 at the 1820 Settlers National Monument in Grahamstown. The fourteen-page programme documents undergraduate, honours, master’s and doctoral qualifications across the Faculties of Law, Humanities and Commerce, including academic distinctions, awards, scholarships and bursaries. It records the conferral of honorary Doctor of Literature degrees on Steven Friedman, for his contribution to Political and International Studies, and Thandika Mkandawire, for his contribution to contemporary African development studies. Postgraduate research addresses employment equity, microfinance, pharmacists’ legal liability, international trade and environmental disputes, customary law and gender justice, organisational psychology, occupational health and safety, and contemporary art. The programme also recognises excellence in research and teaching, including Gregory Lloyd Blatch, Makaiko Liwiro Chithambo and Leonhard Praeg. As a primary institutional source, it supports biographical research, verification of qualifications and distinctions, tracing postgraduate scholarship, and documenting Rhodes University’s academic and institutional history in 2007.
