Abstract
This digitised archival document records the Rhodes University graduation ceremony held on Friday, 13 April 2007, at 10:30 at the 1820 Settlers National Monument in Grahamstown. The seventeen-page programme documents undergraduate, honours, master’s and doctoral qualifications in the Faculty of Humanities, including distinctions, academic awards, scholarships and bursaries. It records the conferral of an honorary Doctor of Literature degree on Fatima Meer and the Vice-Chancellor’s Senior Distinguished Teaching Medal awarded to Leonhard Praeg. Postgraduate research covers literature, history, African languages, journalism, politics, psychology, sociology, anthropology and philosophy, addressing topics such as HIV/AIDS in the Eastern Cape, local government, gender representation in the media, Indigenous cultural identities, land reform in Zimbabwe, and South African political and social history. Doctoral studies examine regional integration in Southern Africa, rural poverty in Kenya, oral literature in isiXhosa, and journalism and political change. As a primary institutional source, the programme supports biographical research, verification of qualifications and distinctions, tracing postgraduate scholarship and documenting Rhodes University’s academic and institutional history in 2007.
