Abstract
-
This digitised archival document records the Rhodes University Graduation Ceremony held on Friday, 7 April 2006, at the 1820 Settlers National Monument in Grahamstown. The twenty-page programme documents undergraduate, honours, master’s and doctoral qualifications in the Faculty of Humanities, including academic distinctions, awards, scholarships and bursaries. It records the presentation of an honorary Doctor of Laws degree to Peter Magubane, alongside university awards recognising excellence in research and teaching. Postgraduate research spans journalism and media studies, psychology, philosophy, political and international studies, history, anthropology, environmental science, English and linguistics. Research topics include women’s citizenship in post-apartheid South Africa, public broadcasting in Nigeria and Uganda, regional integration in Southern Africa, land reform in Zimbabwe, HIV/AIDS awareness among Grahamstown learners, and South African education policy. Doctoral studies address oil-related conflict and civic discourse in Nigeria, psychotherapy for heart-attack survivors, development practices in South African municipalities, and chemical and biological warfare programmes. As a primary institutional source, the programme supports biographical research, verification of qualifications and distinctions, tracing postgraduate scholarship and documenting Rhodes University’s academic and institutional history in 2006.
