This digitised archival document records the Rhodes University East London graduation ceremony held on Saturday, 13 May 1989, at the Guild Theatre in East London. The four-page programme identifies university officeholders and faculty deans, including R.S. Suttner as Director of the East London Division, and outlines the ceremonial proceedings. It records an address by B.E. Hersov, Chairman of Anglovaal Limited and First National Bank Limited, who had received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Rhodes University in 1983. The programme lists graduates in Education and Commerce, including Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Commerce qualifications, with distinctions in sociology of education, philosophy of education, history and comparative education, accounting and mercantile law.
