This digitised archival document records the Rhodes University graduation ceremony held on Friday, 10 April 1987, at the 1820 Settlers National Monument in Grahamstown. The fourteen-page programme documents the conferral of an honorary Doctor of Laws degree on Margaret Mary Smith and lists graduates across the Faculties of Science, Commerce and Pharmacy, alongside postgraduate qualifications in the sciences and related disciplines. Qualifications include computer science, information processing, accounting, economics, pharmacy, geology, zoology, microbiology and plant sciences. Postgraduate research addresses Eastern Cape coastal ecosystems, groundwater resources, invasive species, pharmaceutical chemistry, computer systems and business management. Notable studies investigate the conservation of East London’s coastal dune forests, groundwater in the Uitenhage–Kruis River area, plant taxonomy, the biological control of jointed cactus, and the population dynamics of sardines in Lake Kariba.
