This digitised archival document records the Rhodes University graduation ceremony held on Saturday, 12 April 1986, at the 1820 Settlers National Monument in Grahamstown. The fourteen-page programme documents the conferral of an honorary Doctor of Laws degree on businessman Raymond Ackerman and lists graduates across the Faculties of Science, Commerce, Pharmacy, Education and other disciplines. Qualifications include computer science, information processing, accounting, economics, pharmacy, geology, zoology, ichthyology, microbiology and business administration. Postgraduate research addresses Eastern Cape biodiversity, aquatic ecology, geology, chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences and South African economic history. Notable studies examine the conservation of unique plant communities in the Eastern Cape, invasive aquatic organisms in the Great Fish River, the ecology of Eastern Cape fish species, the effects of pesticides on fish, and plant growth in the Grahamstown sewage works.
