This digitised archival document records the Rhodes University graduation ceremony held on Friday, 9 April 1976, in the University Great Hall. The ten-page programme identifies university officeholders, outlines the ceremonial proceedings and records the conferral of honorary degrees on Mrs Margaret Stuart Fuller (Doctor of Social Science) and Mr Charles Sydney Barlow (Doctor of Laws). It lists graduates across the Faculties of Arts, Education and Divinity, including qualifications in humanities, journalism, physical education, fine art, music and theology. Postgraduate research covers political studies, psychology, history, linguistics, literature, education and economics, with topics including local government in the Ciskei, African labour recruitment for the Kimberley diamond mines, the agricultural development of the 1820 Settlements, Xhosa grammar, the poetry of the Anglo-Boer War and the history of the Graaff-Reinet district.
