This digitised archival document brings together programmes relating to Rhodes University's inaugural celebrations in March 1951, the installation of its Chancellor in October 1951, and the University of South Africa's graduation ceremony held in Grahamstown on 9 March 1951. The ten-page publication provides a record of significant institutional ceremonies, academic achievements and university traditions during a formative period in Rhodes University's history. The inaugural celebrations programme outlines events held from 8 to 13 March 1951, including graduation proceedings, an academic procession and inauguration ceremony, a thanksgiving service, the conferment of honorary degrees, a public lecture by Sir Philip Morris on The Function of the University in the Modern World, and civic and university gatherings.
