Description
-
DENOSA is the largest representative organization for nurses and midwives in South Africa. It was launched by President Nelson Mandela at the Union Buildings in 1996, marking the culmination of a process to unify 10 racially divided nursing associations and homeland-based professional bodies. Unlike traditional industrial unions, DENOSA maintains a "dual mandate": it acts as a trade union to negotiate wages and working conditions (joining COSATU in 2001) and as a professional association that sets ethical standards and provides clinical training.
