Description / content note
-
This is one of the items which was recorded in Durban, Natal, some 400 miles South of their home villages. It was recorded on acetate disc in November 1943. The full lyric and its translation are printed in 'Chopi Musicians' pages 15 to 18, and had been written down on a previous visit to their home district. This Mzeno had already been replaced by the new one "Hinganyengisa" but was still fresh in their memories, or as Katini put it "in their hands". Orchestral dance with 6 Timbila xylophones.
