Description / content note
-
This recording clearly demonstrates the progress of a single item of music over 20 years among an entirley aural (non-literate) musical people. For purposes of the recording the singers sang each verse only once and not the usual twice each. As a rule Mabandla movements are not allocated interesting melodies as they are preoccupied with pas-de-deux performances which may last several minutes and the main interest is focussed on the individual dancers rather than the music. Orchestral dance with Timbila xylophones.
