"The tree/bush 'island' in the open space is the burial site of Nongqawuse whose prophecies led to the Cattle Killing Episode of 1857/8 in Transkei. No grave visible now. Plaque states:" "Grave of Nonquase (sic)the Xosa (sic) prophettess who lived in the vicinity after the Cattle Killing Episode of 1858 until her death in 1890. Erected by CL Deacon, TB Bowker and I Mitford-Barberton, 1963".
